Money can be Holy
Being religious is not equivalent to being holy. Holy in the
bible is the Greek word “Hagyos”, which literally means “to be set apart for
God”. So to set be set apart for God means to be set apart for Love, which is
who and what God is. In short, to be holy is to be Love.
So how can money
become holy?
First, look at the purpose of your money. If the purpose of
that money is Love and to Love others, then it is holy. As being holy is to be
of love, it can be said that money that is for love is holy money.
It has been said that you cannot bring your earthly riches
with you when you die, but according to Matthew 6: 19-20, “don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust
destroys them and where thieves break in and steal. No! Store for yourselves
treasures in Heaven where moths and rust cannot destroy them and thieves cannot
break in and steal them”. And you store treasures in Heaven by giving away,
in Love, your treasures here in earth. Only then will your earthly money become
holy and store up for yourselves treasures in Heaven.
And how can you give money? Of course you have to earn money
first! The more money you earn, the more money you can give, and the more you
can store up treasures in Heaven. You can and have to earn as much as you can,
using your talents and skills and potentials, as long as you are still
glorifying God and still obeying His commands, and as long as what you do to
earn money is still pleasing in the eyes of God.
Thus, the second way to make money holy is to look at the
process of how the money is made. It should also be of Love. No matter how good
the purpose for the money is, no matter how much Love that money can be used
for, if the process of acquiring that money is not of Love and is not of God,
that money still cannot be considered as holy.
You have to love your customers, clients and all your staff.
Never focus on making money, but to build relationships and to Love others.
Profit of businesses should not be revenue but a stronger relationship with
God.
So make sure that the purpose of and process of making your
money must be of Love, to make it holy, and to set your money apart for God.
